Gyeongju Breakfast: Goyu Hanwoo Soup or Geumdong Bean-Sprout Soup?

Soup for breakfast sounds good. At Goyu, I’d also be tempted by beef jeon. At Geumdong, I’d compare bean-sprout and oyster soup. I wouldn’t assume Hanwoo soup is heavy or bean-sprout soup is light just from the names. The broth, ingredients and anything we add matter too.

The earlier English official-menu check was 15 September, and the comparison of Goyu’s closing times was recorded on 20 September. These are dated references. Confirm the current dishes and prices before making your breakfast plans.

Opening times before sightseeing

Geumdong’s official hours are 07:00–16:00 and Goyu’s are 07:30–22:00. In the 20 September comparison, Diningcode listed Goyu closing at 16:00 Monday–Thursday and 22:00 Friday–Sunday. For a later visit, call 0507-1380-8092 to clear up the difference. Opening times, last orders and sell-outs also need confirming. Geumdong’s earlier start could help if you have an early departure.

Soup ingredients and extra dishes

Goyu’s soup contains meat and glass noodles. Diningcode reviewer Jjoppu said the broth wasn’t extremely rich but enjoyed it on a rainy day. My Melody99 liked Hanwoo soup with beef jeon. Source photographs show egg-coated beef and shredded onion. I’m curious how strongly seasoned the soup is and how the onion tastes with the beef jeon. Goyu lists soup at ₩12,000, yukhoe bibimbap at ₩14,000 and chilled tartare soup at ₩16,000. Hot soup, cold seasoned broth and raw beef are different choices; the soup reviews don’t tell us how the mulhoe tastes.

Geumdong lists bean-sprout soup at ₩8,000 and oyster soup, beef soup and bibimbap at ₩9,000 each. Min Hye-gyeong’s VISIT GYEONGJU report, published 23 September 2025 and read again on 7 October 2026, describes chilli powder and crisp sprouts. It’s a tourism report, not an ordinary diner review. Yeosin Haera’s October 2025 account calls the soup light and clean-tasting, so chilli powder doesn’t tell us how hot it is. The report says oyster soup includes oysters and sliced rice cake. Official photographs show vegetables and egg in bibimbap. There are options if someone doesn’t want soup.

Two-person prices

For breakfast, I’d compare the soups themselves and decide whether we wanted beef jeon to share. Two Goyu soups total KRW 24,000. Add KRW 20,000 beef jeon and the total is KRW 44,000. At Geumdong, basic plus oyster soup is KRW 17,000, or two basic soups KRW 16,000. The two basic soup orders differ by KRW 8,000 before extras. They contain different ingredients, so the price difference doesn’t tell us which tastes better or serves more food.

Goyu is at 1058-13 Poseok-ro on Hwangridan-gil. Geumdong is at 7-1 Taejong-ro 791beon-gil in Hwang-o-dong. Choose a route that works with your next stop, and check parking, seating and waits. Visitors have described Goyu as not extremely concentrated and Geumdong as clean-tasting. Those comments are useful, but I’d still ask about the broth and ingredients if I needed a particular kind of breakfast.

For soup with beef jeon to share, I’d look at Goyu. For Gyeongju-style bean-sprout or oyster soup, I’d look at Geumdong. If you’re setting off early, Geumdong’s 07:00 opening makes it the easier first stop, and I’d start with the basic bean-sprout soup there. The linked individual guides have more operating details.
