Daereung Galbi in Hwangridan-gil: How to Order Gyeongju Beef Ribs
Our Neighborhood Arena · August 28, 2026
Daereung Galbi is a useful Hwangridan-gil option if you want Korean beef barbecue and prefer choosing the meat rather than ordering one fixed set. The Korean name is 대릉갈비, roughly “dae-reung gal-bi.” Current public menus include Gyeongju female-cattle rib meat, signature po-galbi cuts, marinated rib cuts, and mixed hanwoo beef.
One detail that matters for foreign travelers is the ordering flow. Recent visitor reports describe a butcher-shop-style system: you first look at the displayed meat, choose what you want, and then move to the dining area to grill it. If this is your first Korean barbecue meal, knowing that sequence before you arrive makes the experience much easier.
You do not have to order a large barbecue meal. Public menus also list galbitang beef-rib soup, yukhoe bibimbap or noodles, beef soup, and soybean stew, so lunch can be simpler if your group does not want to grill a lot of meat.
Daereung Galbi is in the Hwangridan-gil and Daereungwon sightseeing area, making it practical to combine with the royal tombs and nearby historic sites. The restaurant is inside the neighborhood streets, so parking and waiting conditions can vary; check the latest opening hours and current situation on busy days.
Choose Daereung Galbi when selecting the beef cut yourself is part of the experience. If you would rather order a clearly structured platter with salt-grilled and marinated beef, Daehwa Sanjang is the easier comparison.
Korean mini-challenge: 갈비 means ribs and 소갈비 means beef ribs. To ask for the restaurant, show “대릉갈비” and say “대릉갈비 어디예요?” (dae-reung gal-bi eo-di-ye-yo?) — “Where is Daereung Galbi?”
