Hwangnam Sand in Hwangridan-gil: A Buttercream Gift Snack for Your Gyeongju Trip
Our Neighborhood Arena · August 29, 2026
If you are looking for a Gyeongju souvenir you can carry back to your hotel or home, Hwangnam Sand is a dessert stop in the center of Hwangridan-gil. The brand operator’s current page lists the shop at 1074-2 Poseok-ro and describes its signature product as an eight-piece buttercream “sand” gift box.
Name to show at the counter: 황남샌드 / Hwangnam Saendeu / “hwahng-nam saen-deu.” Despite the word “sand,” this is not a lunch sandwich. It is closer to a cookie-style dessert with buttercream filling, sold as a boxed local gift. The stamped shape is designed to evoke Gyeongju’s Daereungwon royal tombs.
The box is known for including several flavors rather than one identical piece, which makes it easy to share with family or friends. Flavor combinations can change, so treat older photos as examples and check the day’s actual box at the shop instead of expecting every photographed flavor to be available.
Buttercream matters when you travel. If you will be walking for a long time or traveling on a hot day, ask the shop about its current cooling-pack option and storage instructions. Older visitor photos show insulated packaging, but the shop’s current guidance should take priority over any past photo.
The shop is on Poseok-ro inside the main Hwangridan-gil walking area, so it fits naturally between Daereungwon, cafés, and the Cheomseongdae direction. Current official information lists daily operation but notes that stock conditions can change opening time or cause an early close, so a same-day check is useful for a late visit.
Korean mini-challenge: “황남샌드 한 상자 주세요” means “One box of Hwangnam Sand, please” — hwahng-nam saen-deu han sang-ja ju-se-yo. “보냉 포장 돼요?” means “Can you pack it chilled?” — bo-naeng po-jang dwae-yo. “오늘 맛은 뭐예요?” means “What flavors are available today?” — o-neul ma-seun mwo-ye-yo. “이거 선물용이에요” means “This is for a gift” — i-geo seon-mul-yong-i-e-yo. “감사합니다” means “Thank you” — gam-sa-ham-ni-da.
